thats Osamu Hoshuyama's page and he clearly states that you should
understand the circuits before building, but even if not, I think that
VCF could be built by most. also, the most interesting thing i've seen
is the linear VCA using two of them, one in a feedback loop. There's a
edn article about this by mike irwin (don't have the link) but you can
