Harry,

You're thinking longframe 1/4" jacks there.  Same size opening, totally different mechanics behind.  

TT (Tiny Telephone) or Bantam (meaning small) look like a shrunken version of longframe 1/4."  They're about an inch long and maybe 3/16" diameter.  Again, I think they have telco heritage, with the impetus being higher density over the 1/4" stuff.

I think they're not popular for synth/DIY projects because they're hard to find and expensive.  The ones I know are either PCB mount or patchbay-frame mount, not exactly friendly for small or one-off gear.

If anyone has a pointer to reasonable quality panel-mount TT plugs, please pass it along!
