I think it's because it's different enough from the normal fare on SDIY.  The FPGA
traffic could bore many SDIY members since many aren't interested in digital anything
let alone programming something.  There are also those who have decided to simply stop
doing traditional SDIY because of RoHS and the demise of through-hole.  I'm really
close to that camp.  There is also the fact that it's a different skill set required to
make a synth out of an FPGA.

There hasn't been enough traffic lately to qualify as clogging, but that could happen
in the future.  

I think it's a good idea, especially since anyone who is interested is invited to join.
