Just thought Id give an update on my project to share my successes and
failures!

This week, I managed to finally put all my Single Board Computer modules
together and get some stuff flying around to generate some output.

Most of my experiments proved the concept so I have moved on to my system
level
architecture much sooner than I anticipated.

Other news
My keyboard mechanism design was completed last week. I met with the guys at
the factory this week and the first run of keys was okay, but some small
defects to iron out. Im assured that the keyboard will be finished on monday
afternoon. The keys feel great, are well balanced and are much stronger than
my original design.

I also met with a colleague who gave me the "heads up" on what they're doing
with FPGA's and PICs. They've built some FPGA system building blocks which
significantly
speed up but simplifies the development process and integration looks to be
much easier than anticipated. I now have some kit to play with and compare
to my dsp stuff.

Keyboard sensing stuff needs a little more software work and the
displacement sensor vane needs redesigning (again), but every interation is
a step closer to a decent output. The combination of velocity sensing and
displacement sensing has shown to be the right approach both for resource
management and fault-tolerance, even if it is more complicated.

Thanks to everyone whos given me their input this week.

Regards

Edward
