Yes obviously I don't call them that to their faces, but we've analysed and plotted energy and water usage at Future Horizons and get people doing what you say in the opposite direction - claiming we've fitted the data to fit our beliefs. So very useful to have more links confirming it's simply a non-issue for AI.
In fact where it is a bigger issue is EVs - the embedded energy and water used for making the SiC devices used to control the motors and chargers really should be included in analysis on forms of propulsion. But when we point this out we get the type of accusations in the paper you reference.
