the 222e touchplate and interface modules are connected by an extra
ribbon cable. so you probably wouldn't want to put them in different
cabinets.

you could put them both in the 12 and use the extra boat for other
things, preferably some relatively self-contained sub-unit like
261/292/291/281 or whatever.

if you really want a 12p cabinet and an extra boat, i'd say go for it,
you can always experiment and see what works and what doesn't within
that.
