ok, i'll rephrase: is the modulation you notice at the detent positive
or negative? if it's positive, can you make it get smaller buy turning
it to the left? if it's negative, can you make it smaller by turning
to the right?

there is some position that will be read as a no-op; the dead band is
programmed in firmware. we could reprogram the dead band to be bigger,
but this could potentially throw off many users including myself.
