Re: Buchla 700

2008-08-06 by synpro@aol.com

If I recall this was the premier of the 700 and Don Grusin was there?controlling the 700 from a midi kybd....or maybe tht was another "performance" of 700. ?The 700 had a membrane keyboard...kind of..not a standard affair. I saw the 700 in a motel room at the NAMM show that year and ordered one. Sadly I sold it about 18 years ago. It was an amazing instrument with amazing combo of soft ware/hardware sound generation with analog filtering, VCA's,?etc. There were these crazy algorithms "FM Ring" and what not....wish they could be updated into a Mac or something.?The problem was that the video chip to run the monitor was defective (not due to Buchla) and thus there was some problems using the x/y pad reliably and the mouse port didn't work much better. A great instrument and way ahead of its time...

From what I've seen, the 700 had a membrane keyboard, but it sounds
like someone's noodling on a standard black-and-white keyboard.
Perhaps it had a MIDI controller attached for the demo?
