Re:200e Euro Interface Do's and Don'ts

Thanks for the good & extra cautious start at documentation.

I'd strongly suggest a volt meter when in doubt.

I've been so busy exploring the 200e, to be honest I've not gotten to
interfacing it yet. (other than the 258v VCO).

Lets see...

Euro by and large is NOT 12v. Thats a myth based on needing +/-12v DC
rails to power them. Not that hitting +12v or for that matter
exceeding 12v is impossible with some combination of what's out there
especially with more and more DIY going on.

The standard is not totally firm so I don't blame you for being
cautious, but it's supposed to be -5v to +5v. That works out quite
nicely if you have a proper Euro voltage mixer, you can either use
the polarizing/biasing variety or mix in +5 and get a CV swing of 0-10.
Actually are there any Euro modules out that rectify voltage or
remove negative values other than offsetting with a positive signal?
I think Serge has some but I can't think of any Euro.

I remember many years ago I was complaining that Doepfer really
didn't utilize or give you the tools to utilize negative voltages
years back (that's changed since). They let you partly open their
VCAs like most modulars do (which lets you use bipolar CV, but that
was it say 10 years ago. Since then they've been looking at lots of
published designs and have gotten around to voltage mixing tools
until years later.

Anyway more documentation is needed for what Buchla modules can and
can't do with negative CV. My understanding is it will either work or
not on a case by case basis. Please correct me if I'm wrong and what
you don't want to do.

I've read reports of a couple earlier Doepfer modules that would
malfunction with more than +8v going in and the complaints they
generated. I'm not sure what the lesson is there, except Euro signals
does not intentionally do 12v

I have my strong doubts Buchla Audio paths are hotter. My guess is
perhaps you have been running very low levels with Euro or maybe only
checking out your external line levels you process with Euro. A Euro
VCO puts out on a hotter wave on average since the intent is to have
both audio and CV in the same -5 to +5 range, quite unlike Buchla.
