that's the 292e. think of the knob for each channel as an initial gain that is there before any other "gain" cv input (such as from the 222e) if you have it anything other than fully ccw then some of the audio signal will be let through and continue sounding as you are experiencing. the way to stop this is, as you have figured out, to turn the knob all the way down.
