Dear friends, I am glad to present you this live performance recording. The piece is called Unexpected Word Space and it features an excerpt from James Joyce's Finnegans Wake. The project was written and directed by the italian composer Francesco Paradiso. I was called by him to create the sound design and software programming for the performance, for the task I've used my Buchla 200e and Max/MSP. The performance was recorded live on Feb. 27th 2012 at the San Fedele Auditorium in Milan and featured a glorious 9 channels PA amplification system. For this recording I've made a Binaural downmix in Logic, so to fully experience the 3D audio it is suggested to listen to it with good quality headphones. The actress reads Finnegans Wake in italian, as you may know James Joyce spent quite a long time in Italy during his life, the translation in italian was made by him and Nino Frank. The excerpt that M° Paradiso wanted to act tells the story of two washerwomen that meet at the river and talk of Annalivia Plurabelle, one of Finnegans' main characters. We found many quotations of rivers' names in the text so M° Paradiso asked me to work on water metaphors with sounds. For this reason I've designed a watery soundscape with the Buchla in 1950s early electronics fashion (to honor the work of Luciano Berio on Joyce's Ulysses: Thema Omaggio a Joyce). Other watery metaphors were created with the use of delays that I've programmed in Max/MSP. Delays, piano and percussions are triggered and controlled by the actress' voice. I hope you will enjoy it even thought I know that the most of you can't understand italian. http://soundcloud.com/giorgio-sancristoforo/unexpected thanks for listening and comments Giorgio Sancristoforo ------------------------------ www.gleetchplug.com www.tobordisco.com mobile: 0039 3493541198 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
