Re: Module Notes/System Overview

2005-02-21 by (i think you can figure that out)

Along the lines of stacking outputs, while it's fine to do that, I've
noticed a slight shift in voltage level if the center stepped section
of the 266e is multed. The added load takes it's effect on the
voltage level. I haven't measured it with any sort of test
equipment to determine just how much, but it did notice it
happening.

I'll give you all a better idea next time I'm at the machine.

But there's somehting else I wanted to comment on. Based on
information I got from Don when I was in Berkeley, like the 281e,
he 266e is digital, not analog as reported on another review on
another list. It's personality is very very close to the original and
it's overall performance outstanding. I personally share Buchla's
view on the whole analog/digital thing however. I find this
argument to be the least pertainent when using the instrument
for what it was intented - making music. There are things best
done with analog circuitry, there are things best done with digital
and Don has retained the ciritcal items from the ealrier
machines - case in point: the Low Pass Gates. Bottom line, the
200e couldn't exist in an all-analog domain. It behaves exactly
like his older machines and while it may sound a bit different,
this by no means implies it doesn't sound incredible - it does.
