The first three modules to recommend are easy
261e
281e
292e

Then, the limitations of a four space system really start hurting. For
me the final space would be either a 225e, a 266e, or maybe a 291e.

I would think a 291e to be particularly useful for a tiny system.

I've been thinking along those lines too. Although I'm thinking for
budget reasons one module at a time and not stopping at 4.

As for myself, I'm weighing what I already have in non-Buchla modules
 .

To give you suggestions I at least would think it's crucial to know if
you have other modular gear (and want to use it. And then what kind of
sounds you are after. Maybe you want to focus on processing external
sounds, maybe you just want to create a playable "monosynth", maybe
you are into drones and crossmodulation so you'd want a pair or more
of 261es (+259es if you are lucky).

Anyway I'd guess the most basic and generally useful combo would be
261e, 291e, 281e, 292e.

You might find the benefits of the 225e outweigh the 291e

I have some Serge panels and it would be nice to interface these with
Buchla modules but it seems as if there is always the need of some
kind of conversion to interface a Buchla with e.g. a Serge or ASys. I
would like to try the Buchla way of doing things and it would be great
to have a small selfcontained system as a starting point for
exploring. It seems as if a combination of 261e/281e/291e/292e in a 4
or 6 panel space powered boat would give quite a lot of possibilities
on the sonic side of things but maybe it is a little weak on the
control side (it would be great if there would be a possiblity to tap
the sequencer in the 291e).
