Possibly about to join the Buchla club

Possibly about to join the Buchla club

Hello. Like many, I have been admiring the Buchla modular from afar for quite a while.
Fortunately, I may be in the position to finally acquire one of beasts in the near future. I
own a fair share of synthesizers-Nord Modular G2X, Moog Voyager, DSI Evolver keyboard,
among others, as well as an embarrassingly large number of under-utilized software
synths. Out of all my instruments, I enjoy playing the Voyager the most because of the
hands-on control of the sound. It feels like a real instrument, more like playing a guitar
or acoustic piano than a machine. I feel a disconnect between me and the sound when I
play my Triton or a synth coming from the computer. This is one reason that I think a
Buchla may be for me. I have watched all the videos I can get my hands(browser) on and
have been impressed by the artistry of Richard Lainhart. I have also really enjoyed the
videos by Allesandro Cortini. Although I can't claim to be an artist of their caliber, these
videos show me the potential of the Buchla 200e synth. I also very much enjoy the
abstract, bleepy music that is presented in so many other Buchla videos.

I have been contemplating the construction of a modular synth for a couple of years now,
bouncing back and forth between a large synthesizers.com modular or some sort of
eurorack system. But, I feel that I want something that is really different. Something that
won't be a redundancy of what I already have. I know that software like Reaktor and MAX
have capabilities that may match or exceed the Buchla, but again, its the hardware touch
and feel of the intrument that I am after just as much as the sound generating capability.

Well, my purpose of this post is to introduce myself, explain my position, and begin to
participate in the discussions, if only by asking questions.

Thanks.

Thank you for your kind words, Barry, and I sincerely do hope you get
to join the club - it's a unique and wonderful instrument.
