I cannot find factoring in the USer's Manual. Can anyone help me with the sequence of commands to have EITHER ONE OF THE TWO CALCULATORS ABOVE do factoring? thank you.

Hi Professorman
The 50G could seem to be difficult and it is if you do not use it often.
Here is how to do it.
Press right shift (that is orange button second from bottom on left) and then EQW (equation writer which is the third from right and 7th from the bottom key, also the \u2018 and O key)
Type X then Yx then 2, press upkey (part of the 4 scroll keys above the backspace key) to select the full equation and then say press + key and x follwed by \u2013 and 6.
You would have the following equation: X^2+x-6.
Use the up key again until the whole equation is selected and then press the factor softkey second from right at the top line.
Your result appear as (x+3).(x-2)
So easy.

I do not wish to appear to be critical, however, the previous author's are not either providing all of the necessary steps which leaves you with veague instructions. I will attempt to clear this up for the 50G of which I am aquanted with for use on nearly all topics of math including Calculus and Diff. Eq's and Linear Algebra. You need to refer to the 50G Advanced User's Reference Manual which is located on the HP site. > --- In 50g@yahoogroups.com, "professorman40" <professorman40@...> wrote:

This is exactly why I bought a ti-89. Although I love my 50g, some things seem so hard to find, or for that matter do with the 50g. In the end the ti-89 is simply easyer to use. --- On Tue, 4/6/10, vjwolf3@... <vjwolf3@...> wrote: From: vjwolf3@... <vjwolf3@sbcglobal.net> Subject: [50g] Re: HOW TO DO FACTORING ON THE HP50G or HP35S To: 50g@yahoogroups.com Date: Tuesday, April 6, 2010, 7:15 PM I do not wish to appear to be critical, however, the previous author's are not either providing all of the necessary steps which leaves you with veague instructions. The calculator I was most in sync with was my HP-41CX. It was adream to program and use. The HP-50, in comparison, reminds me of using assembler on a minicomputer. It's often quicker to use a sliderule. -- ---- hwm@... 360-793-1564 360-665-0730 duane ribron wrote:
