Weirdness when I turn on my calculator

Weirdness when I turn on my calculator

2008-02-12 by Randy Hargis

When I turn on the 50g, it says "HP 49 CAS by Parisse, Heiskanen &
Fiechter" and won't let me do anything. If I reset it on the back, I
get the same message. If I do a 3-key clear memory without restore, I
get the same message. If I empty all the batteries and plug into the
USB I get the same message. Is this calculator toast?

One more thing to try: remove batteries, also remove the backup coin
cell, leave it alone for some hours -- 24, say -- and then try again.
Also, once the batteries are removed, try pressing all the keys,
including the arrows and reset pinhole, several times.

This probably won't work, but it can't hurt, and I've heard of cases
where it did work (not with your precise symptoms, of course).

Got it fixed. Turned out to be a bad library. I booted while holding
down the backspace key which caused the 50g to boot without loading
libraries. Deleted the bad one and calculator runs fine now.

Thanks to all who suggested anything.
