Re: MS2000 Keyboard $600 Harmony Central

2000-08-03 by jondl@jdlx-musique.com

FWIW - the Harmony Central classifieds have a 'Profile' feature for
the
people who advertise there. You can check out their past and current
advertisments to get a feel for whether they're a legit, i.e.,
frequent, dealer who may have established a rep. They also offer a
complaints section where you register a grievance and it is posted
for
posterity so other buyers can search against it. I think there is a
nominal fee associate with that service but I'm not certain.

I've had very good luck advertising on Harmony Central and most the
people there are honest. Of course there will be exceptions, i.e.,
rip
off artists, but if you communicate well with the seller, check out
their references, and trust your instincts - you should be okay. If
you
get a sense that the deal is too good to be true - it probably is.
You
may also want to scan user groups like rec.music.makers.synth and
rec.music.makers.marketplace The people who frequent these lists
will
post BEWARE listings when something goes wrong.

http://www.auctionsoup.com/ has it share of flakes but I've had more
good luck there than bad. http://www.digibid.com/ looks to be a real
professional site for musicians but, their customer service didn't
reply to an inquirey I'd posted until 36 hours AFTER the auction had
ended. Needless to say that prevented me from placing a bid.

I just had to bail-out on a seller today as something unexpected has
come
up :-# Shoot, no new toys for me I'm afraid. This is another risk of
buying & selling online. I've had people bail out on me. I've also
had
people ask a million questions - stuff you or I might take for
granted
- which takes a great deal of time to answer but then once in awhile
that
kind of effort pays off and you get a great reference for future
sales!

hth.

regards,
Jon
