I was working on a market research program about 9 months ago which included musical scoring programs. Here's what I saw: The really high-end guys seem to use either Finale or Sibelius. Both are excellent programs, have both Mac and Win support, all kinds of flexibility -- and cost a bundle ($500-600US SRP). I've played with the demos of each, and personally, I like Sibelius. Cakewalk has a relatively new one called 'Overture 2' which I have never used, but on the whole I like Cakewalk products. It's also Mac and Win. And finally, MOTU has Mosaic, which is Mac-only. Everything else -- other than Cubase VST Score -- seemed to be in the "toy" category.
