Actually, that's the basic idea behind the "syndrums" that were all the rage in the early 80's. It's designed to simulate what happens when a real drumhead is struck: The force of the hit both vibrates the head, and stretches it, raising the pitch. Shortly afterward, however, the head shrinks back to its original size, so the pitch falls during the decay of the drum.
