received with a musical product, and better than the shareware
editor, QControl, that I use with my Alesis QSR -- which I PAID
for. Part of the problem lies in the fact that the AN1x doesn't have
a "bulk dump" MIDI command,

I'm not certain I understand this comment. How else would
AN1xEdit Transmit/Receive if the AN1x didn't have a bulk dump
MIDI Command? Are you differentiating between a possible MIDI
CC or NRPN equivalent for a bulk dump vs. SysEx? See pages
13-15 of the AN1x Data List - I think you can hobble together a
SysEx bulk dump request from this info.

>so either you have to initiate one manually from the synth (as I
do to save files in Cakewalk), or you have to ask for each preset
one at a time (as I believe AN1x does). This means that there is
always a possible sync problem during the "Give me preset #1 ...
Here's #1 ... Give me #2 ..." dialog.

Have you tried dusing the '1-64 vce' and '65-128 vce' options for
BulkDump under the UTILITY/SETUP menu?

When I first tried an AN1x bulk dump via USB (using a midiman
MIDISport 2x2 on both Mac OS 8.6 and 9.x.x and an old copy
Opcode Galaxy v2.5.x) I found it possible to successfully dump
voices using the above options. I'm not going to rehash my
AN1xEdit & USB experiences - see the list archives for that. You
know, I picked up a 1x1 midiman USB MIDI Interface to move
between my various machines. I should put up a copy of
AN1xEdit on my wifes Compaq/XP machine...

other side to also stop and wait. That's why I say that it might not
actually be AN1xEdit's fault -- but it can be frustrating. I hope you
don't see the same problem.
