You have to keep pressed three buttons of the numeric keypad when you 
switch the AN1x on, the top row I think. Or maybe keep other buttons 
pressed? I'm confused now.

You can't download any new OS, since it's stored in a ROM, not an EEPROM.

On the other hand, differences between the various OS version are 
minute, and if you don't have a problem with any of the (very minor) 
bugs, there's not much reason to upgrade. You won't be getting any new 
features, if that's what you're after.
