Hi Kevan, I will try to answer you're questions, but english is not my native language, so it may be a little weird sometimes. Sorry for that. > Read your posting through the list that you have a PLG150-AN hooked-up to > your Motif and wondered if I could ask a couple of questions? > > I have a Motif8 with 3 x PLG150 cards fitted :- > > SLOT 1 = PLG150-PF > SLOT 2 = PLG150-AN > SLOT 3 = PLG150-VL > > I've been downloading Custom Plug-in voices for the three cards, including > the PLG150-AN but have noticed the Plug-in voice effects are not transmitted > with SYSEX dumps and therefore the effects are a little wanting in relation > the the actual preset voice effects.. Correct. The plg150-an doesn't have any effects beside a distortion. So it depends on the host for more effects. As there are several different hosts available with different effect possibillities the actual effect parameters are not part of the custom voices. > > When editing the 128 User bank on the PLG150-AN am I supposed to edited the > effects before I transfere these to the 64 Voice PLG Plug-In bank? I use the AN1Xedit program to edit/load raw custom voices. Then I use these voices as the basis for user voices on my motif. I edit them on the motif and store the edited version in a PLG user voice with the added motif effects. > I did notice I could edit all voice effects, system and Insert from the > Motif Voice Editor/Librarian on my computer and then transmit this over > USB/MIDI but this seems like a lot of work just to get the PLG voices to > have similar effects as the preset voices and indeed the built-in Motif > voices.. Surley there's a more simpler solution to this? As told above I do this on the motif itself. It still is a bit of work, but I can get around my motif pretty fast. > > I remember on my Korg Trinity (Which I sold over a year ago)I could copy > both voice and insert effects from voice to voice, combi to combi and indeed > insert this into a track in the sequencer but not on the motif sporting > these PLG cards - seems like a lot of work editing 3 x 64 voices to improve > on basic system reverb.. You can copy the common parms between voices. Voice job mode, [F3] copy, type =common So when you set up one voice with the effects you want on all other voices you can copy these to them. Still one by one.But you don't have to specify the complete effect parameters each time. > > I'm experiencing difficulties knowing which effects to use to the "Best of > Yamaha" AN1X/PLG150-AN voices I've downloaded from the web, as well as my > other PLG cards so any pointers, and or help would indeed be appreciated.. > Taking the PLG150-AN as a starting point and then I can use the information > and move to the other cards.. Just the > PLG150-PF and PLG150-AN cards seem to possess little or no effects when > dumping SYSEX voices to the cards.. The VL card also doesnt have any effects in its custom voices. It only has more build-in plug voices. And applying effects is a very personal thing, my taste can be very different from yours. So experimenting is the key here, just try the different effects on the sounds, keep what sounds good to you and skip the rest. The effecttypes that I use most often are the chorus, reverb, delays and compressors. But that is hardly surprising given that these are used mostly by everyone. Hope this helps... Grtz Wan
