Okay, I downloaded a copy of MIDIBridge9X beta

and so far - no joy :-( but I've not yet given up trying...

the first problem is getting OMS 2.3.8 installed under Classic - I simply copied my 
install from my 'real' OS 9 boot disk to my Classic partition on my OS X disk then 
started Classic from System Preferences. OMS Studio Setup runs okay and see the 
MIDIBridge driver. So far, so good. I run the MIDIBridge app under OS X and set the 
virtual In and Out ports then back to Classic where I run AN1xEdit - which "see's" the 
virtual ports but no MIDI I/O occurs.I know I'm missing a step - might be related to 
the active USB HUB my MT4 runs off...maybe I'll just boot into Classic and get MIDI I/
O working there or perhaps switch my Classic definition to to my OS 9 boot disk - will 
probably need a slimmed down extension set for...blah, blah, blah, ramble on....
