Yeah, Jon --- YOU ROCK! Just what the doctor ordered. Now, we have two Webspeak replies to offend newbies with: RTFM >and< RTFF. *just kidding* Just a musician's thing now as anecdotal: Yesterday when I got to our studio I was nothing but so pissed I couldn't talk right. See, we'd had a gig 3 weeks ago, and the studio is in the loft of a garage, and I'm recovering from a broken leg, and a lot of gear was still in the band bus. But, after surrendering to the heat of a loft studio (built last winter, no air conditioning yet) and plugging along, we got the stuff set up. Last week I and a bandmate attended the NEARFest and absorbed the music of 10 musicians and bands - many who are the cream of Prog Rock at the moment (Planet X, Mike Keneally Band, Pallas, Universe Zero... see http://www.nearfest.com ). Moral of the story - it's worth the hassle, folks. Whatever nuisance there is in being a rock musician with all the stupid cables, stands, mixers, monitors, mains, and morons... it's great to play. And it's great to play good gear. I heard Planet X using Nord stuff, and it sounded great as VA gear. But when I've played the Nord gear in the music store, I'm never so overwhelmed that I wanna ditch my AN1x. At this time I only want one VA (or real analog) in my setup, and the AN does a fine job. I heard 3 different bands using Moog Voyagers - yep, sounds like a Moog all right. But then, in a big hall with a lot of other instruments playing if you had blindfolded me I would never have known which synth was whooping out that square wave or buzzing out that saw. (Blasphemy! He's saying there isn't a lot of difference between some synths! Force him into the small room and subject him to hours of loops from a Casio as punishment.)
