You are (fortunately) mistaken, good sir. AN1x Edit changes the synth when you make changes in the program. So you would say that it's a real-time update. You will be able to hear the changes as you move knobs, sliders or whatever in the software just as if you did it on the synth itself. I believe what the instructions are saying is that you should not be editing patches on the synth while using the program. You can certainly play the keyboard while AN1x is running.
