If you've got a pan knob, be sure to pull the guy entirely into one speaker... dumbass. Subtleties and nuances make the mix like a wonderful meal. Too much sweet or salt will kill the best steak. And believe me, I've heard live mixes of some of the best names that had that same quality as when you step on the cat's tail. Or when you're on the airport runway.
