An1x + Intel-based Mac

An1x + Intel-based Mac

2006-05-16 by synth72

Hi,

I've just re-acquired an An1x (in transit & I'm very happy to be back in the fold) and was
wanting to know if anyone knows how/if I can use Gary Gregson's editor w/ the new Intel-
based Macs. I have an iMac & haven't been able to open An1xEdit from the files section here
and the version on Yamahasynth.com downloads as a blank Word doc. Am I just SOL with
this? I'd like to be able to contribute some more patches in the future (I last contributed in '01
or so).

I've also tried my version of SoundDiver purchased in '02, and it won't work w/ OS X.
thanks,

Philip

Hi,

as far as I know, the An1xEdit runs only under MacOS9, though if anyone knows where to find a version for OSX IŽd be grateful as well... However, IŽve been told that the old OS9 programs can still be installed and run under the Classic Environment, even if the new macs donŽt have a separate start volume for OS9 anymore.
Hope this helps,
Alex

Philip,

Welcome back, good to hear from you after so long :-)

Classic apps will not run under Rosetta on Intel Macs, so the answer is no to AN1xEdit.

Do you have an XSKey from Apple (Emagic)? If so, the 3.1b2 of SoundDiver for OS X can be
authorized on your XSKey and should run under Rosetta. You can grab the download from
here:

http://www.macmusic.org/news/view.php/lang/EN/id/2036/

I've had issues performing reliable dumps to the AN1x from 3.1b2 of SD under 10.3.9 on
my G5 with my MT4 MIDI Interface, but dumps from the AN1x to SD work okay.

Again, welcome back.

Regards,

Jon

This is true for PowerPC based Macs that run Classic under OS X, but no longer true for the
new Intel based Macs - they do not support Classic apps.

I've run AN1xEdit under Classic along wiith OMS 2.3.8 within OS X 10.3.9 (Panther) and it
works perfectly. If you have a USB MIDI Interface (Emagic/MOTU/MIDIman) that has a
driver which is supported in OMS - then you can install under Classic, configure an OMS
Set-up, run AN1xEdit under Classic and the hardware (MIDI Interface) will be recognized.
Apple made some API change in the update from Jaguar to Panther which allows this to
work where as it did not under Jaguar and earlier OS X release levels. I've not tried this
under Tiger, but I don't see why it wouldn't still work. I hope to upgrade this spring/
summer to Tiger.

Regards,

Jon

Jon,

Thanks for the kind words. I've owned a few synths after I sold the last An1x I had and I
don't think I've been nearly as productive tweaking sounds since (Reason isn't much fun
without a proper controller).

My copy of SoundDiver was v.3. I'll have to look for the XSKey (I'm assuming you're
referring to the serial #?). It's in storage, along with my older software (I pretty much keep
all the software I've ever owned).
cheers,

Philip

An XSKey is a USB dongle used for copy protection - 1st by Emagic, subsequently by
Apple. You'd probably know if you had one...

Hello:

The older versions of SoundDiver doesn´t work correctly with MacOs X, perhaps you should use the MacOs Classic. And perhaps your editor will work on tje MacOs 9. But if you use Logic I think that Emagic has a Beta SoundDiver for Logic Pro 7.
I hope this can help you.

  Bye.
