I got a friend to open up the AN1x and clean the contacts and the dead key is sounding again.

I did not have the technical savvy to do the job myself. A circuit board needed to be removed and two connectors in order to get to the contact strips.

However, it is done, and she works again. We took out a pound of cat hair as well

glad everything turned out well for you, it's always a good feeling after something is taken apart and it works when it is put back together.  as far as the cat issue, that is on you  ;-)

Oh man Jimmy almost the perfect fix --- but you forgot to make a hat out of
the cat hair.
