It's printed on the DC-Adapter: 12V/700mA, positive tip...

12v 700mA center positive
As you probably have heard, not all power supplies are filtered and can cause your instrument to hum thru the outputs. Use of only Yamaha power supplies is highly recommended.....

The stock power supply is rated at 12V DC- 700 mA , positive tip.
If you use another one, 700 mA should be considered as a minimum, but
don't exceed the voltage rating and change the plug for the right type.
Similar supplies (and the right connector) can be found in electronics
shops, supermarkets, computer shops...
Cheers.

9/10 times the wire with the white on it is positive, but to be absolutely certain you need to pull out your DVM (digital voltmeter), set it for DC voltage (if it was AC it wouldn't matter which was what) and test it and see.

If you dont have a DVM (which is an absolute necessity in working with anything electronic from cords to fuses to power supplies), you need to have one. Sears has a really nice autoranging DVM for maybe $30 although you can pick up a decent one at almost any hardware store...

Re: [AN1x] general power supply question

2010-03-31 by Jeff

The "non black" wire is more likely the "+".
To be sure take some multimeter (basic models can be found in any
hardware - electronics store for quite nothing) and check.
You might find that the measured voltage is higher than the rated
voltage : nothing wrong, your supply is not regulated, and being
unloaded voltage rises. A regulated PSU gives a constant voltage
relatively independant of the load, but they're not so common, most of
the time the regulation part is located in the synth, sound module,
effect box etc...
Cheers.
