Hi Ed,

I'm livin' in Europe and here's my honest answer:
I didn't have to learn accordian.Instead I played home organ as a kid .
Actually, I don't know any kid that plays accordian nowadays and I have 3 kids
myself (and they have a lot of friends too).
If the parents can afford it they let their children learn piano. Maybe in the
deep woods of Bavaria, Poland and Transsylvania they can be heard some
accordians tortured by kids. ;-)

Really? Me too...which did you played? My family used to have a WERSI
Galaxy...(and IIRC we started with a Hammond). And later my father
exchanged it by a Yamaha Clavinova and a Technics PSR.
I later stopped playing and just started playing around again with
synthesizer when i moved into my own flat, when i became 18.

I do. The neighbours kids, when i was younger, were forced to play
accordian...the worst sounding instrument ever...(beside bagpipe and
Soundblaster FM ,hehe).

But nowadays, hm, i think it really is very outmoded now. Nowadays,
kids learn guitar, flute, violin, piano or drums.

Your parents must have made you play the digeridoo as a kid... :)

Did you know that it is a holy instrument for the Aborigines (right
spelling?) and that women are not allowed to touch it?
