(AN200) What would interest me....

(AN200) What would interest me....

2001-01-13 by Sayer

If it is the AN1x minus the keyboard, then I really wouldn't have much
interest. Even a step sequencer would not do that much for me.

Here's the minimum it would take to interest me:

4 part multi-timbral (minimum)
12 voice (minimum)
Complete effects on each multi part (must)
More knobs than the AN1x

So I guess I would like it to be the AN1x sound engine with a design similar to
the Novation Nova's interface, power, and flexibility.

Yeah, I know it won't happen......

What would be cool, I wouldn't mind the 10 voices, provided there's a
selectable allocation of voices per multitimbral parts... for example:
monotimbral - 10 voice polyphony
bi-timbral - 5 voice polyphony per part
5 part multitimbral - 2 voice polyphony per part
10 part multitimbral - monophonic per part

>Complete effects on each multi part (must)

I wouldn't count on it. For $699 list it's highly doubtful.

>More knobs than the AN1x

That's doable...Heck, the Korg EA-1 has more knobs than the AN1x! :)

I prefer dynamic voice allocation....

Well, what about global reverb and chorus, plus a single FX per voice??

But it doesn't control its filters (I mean filter cutoff)

and another step sequencer w/ 32 steps plus a fully programable arpeggiator
(just like the MicroQ)

Huh? The EA-1 has cutoff and resonance knobs...I'm looking at them right now.

Oooopps!! I was wrong, in fact there's no LFO modulation, sorry...:-)

What, if I may ask, is wrong with the sound engine of the Novation
Nova? If it's up to me, the next item in my line-up is a Supernova II
Pro X.

However, since I'm now living together, it's no longer up to me
alone. :)

Oh, nothing is wrong with it!! I *love* my Nova. It is one of my favorite
synths and is the easiest to use out of all of them.

I went and tried out the SNII and to be honest, there wasn't enough difference
between it and the Nova sound-wise to justify my "upgrading".

The biggest weakness of the SN line is that it can't get as edgy sounding as
something like the Virus. Otherwise it is an awesome VA.

I would recommend a Nova to anyone looking for a multi-part VA. You can get
them used for around $850 these days. That gives you 6 parts multi-timbral,
each with dedicated effects including delay, reverb, chorus, etc.

Is Nova's interface not much tougher to use than SuperNova's ?
I am thinking of getting something to compliment my AN-1x and ViRUS b ...
It will be either Nova or Waldorf's something (XT or Qrack/micro) ..
