does anyone know what units the LFO speeds are?

Re: does anyone know what units the LFO speeds are?

Hi Reg,
In case you missed it - we just had this discussion about a week - two
weeks - ago and nobody has the answer as to what the LFO Speed values
equate to in Hz. Not even Gary. Yamaha did not (would not?) provide him
that info when he made AN1xEdit. I emailed Yamaha Customer Assistance
last week asking them this very same question. I got a reply that my
question had been passed along to Yamaha Japan and YCA would get back
to me when the have a response from Japan.

So there you have it. ;-)

regards,
Jon

Nothing to be sorry about, Reggie...I wonder how/if Yamaha Japan will
repy to my question? If they couldn't provide the data to a guy they
contracted why would they give it to "Joe User" ;-) YCA has been
pretty good to me up until now so we'll wait and see.

Re: does anyone know what units the LFO speeds are?

2001-02-17 by jondl@jdlx-musique.com

I honestly don't know to go about that?!

I'd incorrectly assumed the LFO table in the Data List could be applied
to the LFO Speed - but as Gary pointed out this table relates to the
LFO values for the FX parameters. I downloaded a copy of the PDF for
the A3000 (because I have no life ;-) and that shows the LFO Speed
values in Hz for the A3K. You can get it from the Yamaha U.K. site. But
that table only displays 64 possible values - and while it in the
'neighborhood' of the values in the AN1x data list LFO table the values
quickly diverge from any ratio I can figure out. Any mathematicians on
the list want to try?

Re: [AN1x-list] Re: does anyone know what units the LFO speeds are?

2001-02-17 by Reggie

Well, I had a little think about this, the LFO value can be anything
from 0 to FF (hex) or 0 to 255 (decimal). I usually try and lock it to
what ever tempo I'm working in or divisions/multiples of depending on
the type of noise, this appears to work for a while, but it does lose
sync after a bit. That could be down to the sequencer though.

The best thing to do would be to set the LFO rate, then have a noise
that you can hear the LFO on and measure how many cycles you get in a
second or in the time it would take a bar at the tempo of LFO i.e. if
LFO = 180 then tempo = 180. If you get 4 cycles in the bar length then
it is BPM, if not you can at least work out the Hz by measuring the
cycles (Peak to Peak when looking at the wave in Soundforge) per second.
It is probably neither but a Table instead, but at least we can narrow
it down by finding out what it isn't!! I hope this all makes sense.

I'll have a look at this over the weekend sometime, probably Saturday
night.

I'm using a PLG AN, but that shouldn't make a difference.

Yes you would just need an oscilloscope I would assume.

That's cool, MY mate's got one, He said he'll have a look, he's got a
