Can anyone offer tips for getting that hollow lead sound that is so 
popular these days.

I can tell that it is a pulse wave, and the pulse width sounds like 
50%, and I can tell that there is some resonance on the filter, but I 
can't seem to get the thing to bite or throb. It sounds sweet rather 
than hollow, if you get my drift. (Should I be using a single 
oscillator?)

Try modulating the pulse width, adding portamento, use the mod wheel 
for pitch modulation, increase the feedback a little, try tuning osc 
2 to a fifth above osc 1. A little vibrato, after a brief delay 
sounds nice too.
