The knobs on my "vintage 1998 Yamaha AN1x" are just fine, but I know they'll either break or get lost one day (after opening my softcase after gigs, a couple knobs seem to wind up in the case). I was browsing through a catalog for a local electronics store. They didn't have the right ones but it got me thinking. I know the AN1x has 1/4" diameter, half-moon style pots. Has anyone located knobs that would fit these pots? I saw some small knobs at Radio Shack which fit 1/4" pots, and they were black with blue tops, which I thought might look kinda cool on my AN1x, but they weren't half-moon style (they do have a tiny screw on the side, I wonder if it can be screwed in further to make up for the pot shape). Would anyone mind if I compiled some of the tips mentioned in this list and used them (icluding source!) on my web pages in the An1x tips and trick / Faq?

Elson,
The "set screw" usually works fine. Especially with the 1/2 moon pots.
The screw can tighten down on the flat part of the shaft and holds much
better than on a round shaft.
Tip: Have your AN1x in a very warm place before trying to remove the
knobs (heat expands things and makes plastic smoother). Also, to prevent
harming the pots or circuit board, or scratching the surface, use a small
flat blade screwdriver with cloth wrapped around the tip as a lever. Force
it gently under the knob at 12, 4 and 8 o'clock to get the knob loose before
beginning to turn the blade of the screwdriver. This is a standard
"technician procedure" for keeping knob replacement from becoming a
disaster.

Has anyone located knobs that would fit these pots? I would first try Yamaha as it's entirely likely their service dept. would offer replacement parts http://www.yamaha.com/synth.htm My experience with YCA has been positive :-) And if that doesn't pan out I'd try EPR Electronics out of New York http://www.eprelectronics.com/ I know of many Ensoniq users who have been ordering replacement parts (knobs & buttons) from EPR Electronics. They replied to my inquiries via their website in about 24 hours. regards - and Happy New Year. Jon
