AN1x Edit Problems

AN1x Edit Problems

2002-02-06 by voodu303

Hiya all - just reformatted and reinstalled AN1x edit and
have a weird problem that's never occurred in the 3 years
I've been running it.....

Namely the 'text' in the top half of the window is missing -
no patch names/button names! :-)

Now I can kinda guess my way about by know but it does make
it a real slog having to edit 'banks' etc...

When I checked there was a font called asi_system.fon that was
installed with it and it's in the correct folder - it even appears
correctly in the bottom half of the app window....

Any ideas before I start nutting the monitor? :-)

All the best

Perhaps you should uninstall, download a fresh copy of
AN1xEdit from the Files section or Gary's site and reinstall from
that. It sounds as though something is corrupted...Gary or Bruce
know Windows better then I do...maybe they'll have a
suggestion...

From memory (no sod it....I'll check the code......)...yes, AN1xEdit
uses two fonts:

Small Fonts - A standard Windows font (usually SMALLE.FON, but the last
letter after SMALL may vary depending on language of the system)

asi_system.fon - A custom font

My guess is that something has trampled on the Small Fonts of your
system (Occasionally graphics cards do this as some manufacturers
provide their own small font).

The solution is to search the Windows Cab files (on your original
installation disc) and copy the original small font file back to your
Windows Font folder.

Let me add to Gary's note: Sometimes, there are multiple versions of the System, Serif, and Sans Serif fonts under windows. These variants will often have similar names like SYSTEM.FON, SYSTEME.FON, SYSTEMF.FON, etc. Different programs seem to need the different versions; I have no idea why, other than that some programmer or toolmaker has hard-coded the name in the program.

Hi Bruce,

That's true. However in the case of An1xEdit it attempts to load the
font via the family name 'Small Fonts', so any language version (which
is why some have letter changes) should load.

My guess is still that the Small Fonts have been deleted from the guys
system.

Cheers for all the advice guys - did as Jondl suggested and

Edit , is once again peachy! :-)

Thanks to all for taking the time to answer.
