somebody make me stop!

The Space Animals put down the music for a rap tune this morning. Now if there's anything stupider than middle aged white guys out in the woods writing rap tunes, I don't know what it is. Fun though. Essentially we went nuts in Acid, using the paintbrush tool and about ten percussion loops and ten drum loops. Then Steve put down some bass while I turned knobs. Some fun sounds. I have a sync lead on scene one and a really buzzy fuzzed out chord sound (using the BEF filter and saw tooth waves) on scene 2. Switching scenes and morphing scenes got some cool results. I was surprised at the sounds from changing the source of the frequency modulation. You can totally trash a sound that way. The BEF filter also sounds cool when you sweep it with the cutoff knob. Keep the resonance down for a good pronounced effect. Also, turn the filter all the way open and the resonance all the way up, then slowly close the filter until the note starts to howl. Extreme sustain is also fun. We recorded two tracks of that, then I dialled up a string patch for some real slow evolving textures. I was playing with the LFOs getting the string patch to disintegrate into this buzz, play some rhythm on the ribbon controller, getting the pmod with the mod wheel... The AN1X takes some time to figure out, but most of the classic synthesizer sounds are in there. I'm always surprised at the sounds in this thing-from surreal to pretty to Alph Centurai.
