If I had the money ($3500.00 for the Kyma), I would buy a Symbolic
Sounds Kyma system and a good notebook computer.. Essentially, the
Kyma system has a hardware accelerator (a whole bunch of Motorola
chips in a box) along with a wicked software package. The system is
more a language than a synth, it can be a synth, a processor, or a
sequencer. The system can be upgraded to the point of insane overkill
and even the basic system will do 80 some bands of vocoding. It also
does spectral morphing and all sorts of other extremely cool esoteric
algorhythmns (over 300 algorhythmns so far) so it will do any
synthesizer technique possible as well as any permutations you can
think of-in other words, you can do granular synthesis with
subtractive synthesis and throw in FM to modify any crazy thing you
want then run it through a whole bunch of other things ad
infinitum.Totally modular and totally flexible.

If I won the lottery, I'd also like one of Rex Probe's Sound
Transform systems. essentially Rex makes brand new Serge modular
systems. A basic system runs about $8000.00. The sixteen step touch
sequencer looks very cool as does the boolean logic module.

I also wouldn't mind one of the new Mini Moogs.I want one with a
walnut cabinet.They're only $3500.00.

Man, I have expensive tastes.

If I had the money I would hire someone to build my dream synth.

In addition to a standard keyboard, it has a 21" color LCD touch screen.
The screen is a complete real time graphic user interface with
mouse/drawing pad, jog dial, and qwerty keyboard.

There are 1000 preset "sampled" instruments from all over the world and
another 1000 drum/percussion presets all in memory.

It uses real physical modeling:
You select an instrument and it is rendered in 3-D in minute detail on the
main screen.
In real time you can:

Highlight any part of the instrument and you can change it's material ( for
example, differents types of wood, metal, plastic, etc...) and the sound
will change accordingly in real time.

Select any area or part of the instrument and you can click and drag to
change the shape and size of that part and the sound will change
accordingly....in real time of course.

Real time control is aslo available via 36 assignable control sliders and
another 36 assignable rotary pots. Each controller has it's own LCD that
displays whatever parameter it is assigned.

Other parameters such as thickness, resonance, room size (effects) can be
assigned to the controllers for real time adjustment.
All changes are recordable and can be stored as user presets that can be
assigned to any controller.

You can also create an instrument from scratch by simply drawing it on the
screen, rendering it in 3-d and assigning it's physical characteristics.
Or you can import certain types of vectorized images too . (There's an
internal DVD burner...I forgot to mention)

It's my dream,
you can steal it but if you do you have to promise to build one for me too.

In your dreams!- A friend of mine here in Birmingham (and someone lucky
enough to afford and own a Moog 111c)- has had the Voyager on order now for 2
years.- Yep, Big Briar still haven't finished it.

On the subject of computer hardware, why not an apple powerbook and MAX/MSP?-
It would do the same for a fraction of the price. Incidently, does anyone
know what Morton Subotnick uses?- After giving all those gems made with a
Buchla EMB- I know he uses a powerbook- but with what software?

Tom :-)

But would you actually make any music on it? hehehe

That's exactly the idea! With all that real time control, it will be very
easy to make music on it...
