AN1X sounds

The AN1X not only excels at duplicating old sounds, it also has some
features to make some nice new sounds. It really updates the old
polyphoic sythesizers. Use of such features as the mod wheel for
scene control lets you switch from a funky wah wah sound to a jangly
fm piano kind of sound. You can also easily jump from a rhythmn
instrument to a lead instrument just by setting up the scenes,

Now I'm not knocking the Andromeda, and I'd love to have one, but the
AN1X live gets you about 95% of the way towards an analog tone.As far
as sound design, an instrument like the Andromeda is way ahead of the
AN1X but after a couple of years I still haven't tapped into half the
power of the AN1X.

Anybody here going to buy one of the new Melotrons? They're only
$5000.00 at www.melotron.com.

Dudes/Ladies,
We who play rock apparently for the most part do not understand and
appreciate the sounds we get at the bargain prices we pay. Ok, I'll
certainly agree that $5k seems like a lot. But that's a lot of sound as
well.
I know some musicians in local symphonies (Balto. & DC) and took a look
at their union newspaper classifieds a few years ago. There was not one
violin posted for under $10,000 and when you got into the larger instruments
like cellos... whoa... like $50,000. And some doublebasses for more than
$100,000. A Stradivarius was more than half a million if I remember right.
Think about it - they get for their money exactly ONE sound. Maybe more
if you're considering technique, but all in all... long live rock.
Now where I envy them is the road trip and setup. One tuxedo, one
instrument, one case. Put it on, take it out, sit your butt down and play -
bow, put it back, go home and change. Saturday I'll be performing at an
important yearly event and taking no less than 3 keyboards on an A-frame, a
12 space rack, 3 guitars, a bass, a combo guit amp with 4x12 cabinet, two
12" monitors and miles of cables, snakes and MIDI connectors. I will be
enjoying myself, though.

But remember we can always generate our own business and most of these
people can't unless they are also playing in a chamber group.
