Yesterday I've seen the photo of opened AN and because I don't like external power adapters I have an idea and question for you. What about to implement power adapter inside the AN? It looks there is enough space (under the diagram) for it. I don't want to cut my AN now but it should be more practical. Any hints, tips, ideas or experiences? AQ

Hi AQ, This could probably be done, but the body of the AN1x is made of soft plastic, and many of the internal supplies use an IEC connector. I would be concerned about the long-term reliability of the connector from the stress of plugging and unplugging the power cord. A better idea, IMHO, is to replace the "wall wart" adapter with one of the smaller switching adapters that laptop PCs use. (I did this on my AN1x.) These adapters are lighter weight than the PA-3B that comes with the AN1x, and have a separate power cord so they can sit on the floor below the synth, instead of hanging from a wall outlet or a power strip. I used to sell a low-cost one that fits the AN1x at my Internet store, but my supplier ran out, and the replacement is much more expensive. Recently, though, I found five of them in storage, so if you or anyone else is interested, please contact me off-list. Yes, it's true, the case is very soft. It's one of its drawbacks and I hate the fact that my AN has very scratched corners, moreover not done by me. The main reason why I would like to implement the power supply inside the instrument is probably about "power switch". My Rolands have their power cords plugged to sockets forever and when they are switched off, nothing can happen. But the AN's wall wart adapter becomes a bit hot after a while and I preferably unplug it when swithing the instrument off. Everything can happen and I don't believe so much that the small power switch can protect my dear AN. Yes, the small laptop-type adapter with a power switch unplugging it from the power should be solution, but if anybody has any comments about implementing the power supply or already done it, please let me inform. Assuming you keep your instruments plugged into a quality surge suppressor, or even a line conditioner or UPS, it should be okay. If you search the list archives you'll be hard pressed to find many - if any - issues with the AN1x power supply. Also, the PA-3B from Yamaha is widely available and inepensive at that - you could keep a second unit on hand at little expense. > Yes, the small laptop-type adapter with a power switch unplugging it > from the power should be solution, but if anybody has any comments > about implementing the power supply or already done it, please let me The laptop adapter Burce proposed would be a VERY nice alternative. I might have to shoot him an email...;-) regards - welcome to the list. Jon
