Re: [AN1x] AN1X MIDI?

Re: [AN1x] AN1X MIDI?

simplify
Try the an1x to one of the synths you wish to control first. See if that works first.

Some midi thrus are not true. I do not know about the ones you have. I have some that only pass the info from that unit out and block the rest. Others I have pass everything including that unit on.

How I troubleshoot a large set up like this, is one at a time to ensure I have signal and it is set to act on that input. That way, bad cables and forgetting to turn it on in the settings is eliminated.

Try the one on one first. If you want you can email off list, I will try to help you as much as I can. I am setting up my stuff right now too after a move. So things like this are a bit fresh in my mind right now.

  Subject: [AN1x] AN1X MIDI?

  Hi,
Iam trying to use my AN1X as a master keyboard to control my rack synths, but not getting any sound even in cubase.

I also can not use the voices on AN1XEDIT along side cubase in an1x mode,I can only use the onboard presets on my AN1X.
  Iam using winxp,cubase,xgedit,an1xedit and midi-ox.
My AN1X is set to recive, transmit etc on ch2.

  My midi cable connections are:

AN1X midi out to sw1000 midi in
sw1000 midi out to AN1X midi in

AN1X midi thru to rack synth1 midi in
rack synth1 mdi thru to rack synth2 midi in

  AN1Xedit (AN1X mode):
  midi in=none
  midi out=midi yoke1
  midi thru=unticked

  cubse MME midi setup:
  input=sw1000 midi in,midi yoke1
  output=sw1000 synth 1&2,sw1000 midi out

can someone please very kindly give me any tips?

  Regards
  Dmanx

Hello.
Either I misunderstand your description , or you misunderstand the place and
function of MIDI Yoke..
you need MIDI Yoke (or any other software virtual MIDI ports liek HUBI )
only if you don't have MultiClient Midi Interface, that is if it doesn't
support several applications routing MIDI to the same Output, as you need,
in your situation, for being able to route notes from Cubase to AN-1x and to
send the patches (that means send sysex data) from AN1x Edit to AN-1x (you
somehow described the fact you can't play AN-1x patches in a 'mysty' way so
I am wrote the last () thing).
So you need to - route your MIDI Yoke's virtual port to SW MIDI Out
(connected to AN-1x IN)
route AN-1x Edit OUT to MIDI Yoke
route Cubase to MIDI Yoke
you SHOULD NOT route "input = MIDI Yoke 1" in MME as you say
and SHOULD NOT have "SW MIDI OUT" in Outputs in MME. (because then you block
SW OUT port from Yoke virtual port using it).
If your midi interface on SW is Multiclient-capable, then forget about MID
Yoke at all and just route AN-1xEdit to SW MIDI OUT for transferring patches
to AN-1x and Cubase MIDI Out to SW MIDI Out for playing them from cubase.

That should help.

Ray.

Thanks for your advise.I got my 2 rack synths working in cubase using AN1X as master keyboard.I had to assign dedicated midi chanels for each synth + my AN1X locally, then set this up in cubase, and making sure that local midi is set to off on AN1X to controll them.

However the problem is that I can not use an1xedit(including downloaded voices) with cubase to control my AN1X synth.I can only use the on board presets.
I am using winXP pro,cubase 5.1,xgedit,an1xedit,DXeditor,midi-ox.
I use midi-ox because I use more the 2 apps at a time, for example...

DX Editor for DX150plg conected to sw1000xg
AN1Xedit for controlling AN1X synth which I just bought!
XGedit for SW1000XG synths
Cubase5.1 to record everything into.

My midi set up is as per my previous email. All I want to do know is have my AN1Xedit working with AN1X ,as iam getting midi port errors.
All my hardware synths out put to sw1000midi out in cubase.

DMANX

You might want to look into Midi Quest. It is an editor/librarian program for
over 600 synths and it runs as a vst plug-in. It looks really cool. You can
also create custom control panels for all your synths with it to control them
on screen in Cubase. You might also want to look at getting a midi-sport 8x8 to
route your midi. I've had one for about two years now and it has worked
great. Best of luck.

Eric

Agreed.

DMANX - perhaps you've forgotten: there are a pair of 'How To'
articles in the Tips & Tricks specific to your question on running
AN1xEdit in parallel with Cubase. Please navigate to the Tips & Trick
section here at Yahoo! Groups:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AN1x-list/files/Tips%20and%20Tricks/

Navigate down to the bottom of the page and you'll find two html docs:

tt_plg150an_cakewlk9.htm (specific to Cakewalk)

and

tt_plg150an_cubase5.htm

I think you'll find these documents will help you configure AN1xEdit
to run alongside Cubase as does Ray's post.

Hi,
OK got it all working now..phew!
It was the device parameter settings on an1xedit that had had to be adjusted.
Just got to sort out why Iam getting piano sounds as well as the xg synth sound on xgedit?
