Help

2004-01-20 by Alexis Lagorio

Hi !
I bought an AN1x last week (without manual).
I want to use it in a multitimbral mode with a sequencer (Sonar 2.2 XL) and other gears..., but I can t do it.
I don t understand the way it works. I didn t find how to setup the synth to receive in OMNI mode.
The AN1x can support up to 2 channels with 5 notes max. of poliphony, right ???

Thanks in advance !

greg

Hi Greg,

>I bought an AN1x last week (without manual).

I have the AN1x manual in PDF form, in several languages, here:

    http://music.ashbysolutions.com/modsynth

I also have the Data and Setup guides, but only in English.

>I want to use it in a multitimbral mode with a sequencer (Sonar 2.2 XL) and other gears..., but I can t do it.

The AN1x has two receive channel settings, which may be the same channel, or different channels. They can be set through the front panel, or through AN1xEdit. The amount of keys which each channel receives, however, differs depending on the Split mode used. The manual has more details.

If you set up the synth to receive in Omni Mode, though, then it cannot tell the receive information channels apart, except by making keyboard zones (splits). Are you sure that this is what you want to do?

You'll find links to the available Yamaha PDF for the AN1x, PLG150-AN, AN200 here:

You can also visit www.yamahasynth.com and choose "Owner's Manuals".

Yamaha has nearly all their manuals online there and are available for
download, in several languages too. And even for equipment from yesteryear.

Not only convenient when you can't locate your paper manual, but using a pdf
version is easier to search (let the computer do the hard work) for specific
topics. It is also a great 'presale tool'.

Bruce, thanks for your link. I'm downloading the manual...

Well, what I want to do is to use my synth in this way:

My interface MIDI (Motu Express), can manage up to 32 channel, 16 by port.

Port A, channel 1 to 7 I have one Roland MC-505
Port B channel 1 to 14 I have a Emu XL-1 turbo
Port B channel 15 to 16 I will have the An1x

Is clear my expanion ?

cheers

Yes, very clear. However, you definitely DO NOT want Omni Mode. In Omni Mode, the AN1x would respond to Port B CH1-CH16.

You can set the two Rx channels from the front panel. To do this, though, you must be in a program that uses Split or Dual modes; otherwise, you can only set Rx 1, not Rx 2.

expanion=explanation    SORRY !!!

Bruce, I don't want to split my keyboard with 2 differents sounds each zone, but If I'm understand you in the Dual mode is like another synths works in Multimode...
So I have to put the Rx1=15 and Rx2=16 ???

Yes, you will need to separate the two Rx channels. You must also use Local Off, or there will be an internal connection between the keyboard and both channels. Page 22 and 23 of the manual (any language) explains this setup.

Also, remember that the Arpeggio/Sequence Tx output can be on a different channel than the main Tx channel.
