hippie space jam

hippie space jam

2004-09-06 by spaceanimals

Dragged my equipment out into the woods for the annual non festival
jam. There were a bunch of young guys on stage playing old Bob Dylan
and Grateful Dead. Perfect music for the AN1X. Positively 4th Street
got positively weird. The singer did look at me a little odd when I
was doing some multi octave pitch bend bird noises.

To make things more fun I downloaded a whole bank of sounds I've
never used before so calling up presets was interesting. Turning the
assigned knobs was interesting as well. Probably as much fun as I've
had in years playing keyboards. I plugged in my envelope phase
shifter for Woolly Bully, got a clav sound, gave the tune a garage
disco sound.

The Space Animals debuted the Poodle has Landed to an appreciative
(that means drunk) audience. I even did an impromptu sermon.

There's few things more fun than playing live synthesizer outside, in
the dark, in the woods.

Heh...that is a beautiful quote there, Jimmy.

The only thing that might be better...I recall playing screaming guitar
at a party by a river all night long, Hendrix, Stones, anything, bonfires,
approving audience....

But that was long ago and far away. I loved reading your account, brought back
memories and really evoked what is the coolest part of playing instruments.

Rock on!

;-)

Glad it was good for YOU... :-) (Wish you'd recorded a bit for the group.)

Last week I was at a jam/gig in a park in a pavillion. A pavillion is not the
woods. It has: a concrete floor, a wooden 15' ceiling, and the worst echo this
side of a basketball court.

Top this off with 95 degree heat and high humidity and you've got... ung.

The guy who put up the session kindly recorded it. You can hear me say that I'm
about to pass out at 20:45 into the session, and then during the next song, I
did.

The jams are really retro, probably just about what Rainbow Jim was doing.
Beats a sequencer any day but songs are the thing.
