There's 2 issues.

There's the pitch wheel settings for the AN1X and the pitch wheel 
settings for any modules you might be controlling. 

When you use the An1x as a controller you have to set the pitch bend 
range on the module--the AN1X doesn't transmit a set range.

For lead playing try setting the bend range up 3 steps. That way you 
have to listen and try to bend up 2 steps. Gives a more musical, less 
mechanical feel to  the music.
