Importing AN1x files

Importing AN1x files

2005-04-07 by dhjdhjdhjdhj

So, I see there are lots of patches whose file extension is .an1

How do I transfer these to an AN1x which is connected to a Mac OS X
system? These files don't seem to be standard MID sysex files so
Digital Performer (say) couldn't import them

Thanks,
David Jameson

Hi,
Well I don't have midi setup for my mac/an1x at all but there was
discussion of using An1x edit version 1 for mac OS 9x under classic.
Here in a sec I'll forward the message that talks about this to the
list.

.an1 is the file type used by AN1xEdit, the freeware editor/librarian
for Mac/Win as supplied by Yamaha. This format has long been the
standard for sharing Voice on AN1x-list as AN1xEdit will work with
every AN* related device.

AN1xEdit will run under Classic along with OMS if you are running
Panther AND your MIDI Interface has native OS X support - then you
should be able to define a Studio Setup document with OMS under
Classic that "see's" your MIDI Interface - this will allow you to
transmit and receive AN1x Voices using AN1xEdit.

If you are running Panther, you will likely need to use MIDIBridge9x
(still in beta? I'm no longer certain...) to create a virtual patch
between your MIDI Interface under OS X and OMS under Classic
otherwise OMS will not communicate with your MIDI Interface. Apple
changed something in Panther in regards to how information is passed
between layers for the USB ports...

FWIW, AN1xEdit works as exepcted under Classic in Panther using an
Emagic MT4 with OMS 2.3.8 on my system as does the MIDIMAN UNO. I
was never able to successful configure MIDIBridg9X and OMS under
Jaguar.

Good luck.

this is a typo on my part, sorry. It should have read

"If you are running Jaguar, you will likely need to use MIDIBridg9X"

Oh OK I used to use that editor in the Pre OS X days. I had tried
running it under OS X but it complained about OMS and I didn't know
where to get it.

I just bought the Music Quest editor for the Mac but I guess it can't
handle those older files.

Has anyone created SysEx bulk dumps from those AN1 files so that they
could be transferred via a sequencer?

I have a copy of OMS 2.3.8 posted on my other web site:

No, and I'd bet Music Quest has it's own file format - just as Galaxy
and Unisyn and SoundDiver did too.

I ran the demo at some point and had an issue with the responsiveness
of MQ.

Check some of the older archive and you'll find plenty of .mid
and .syx files. Also, AN1xEdit has an export command which you can
use to convert those .an1 files to .mid
