how to make a simple midi splitter,or two into one(the same thing)

2002-08-12 by dizardsdreams

I have been getting help as regards my atari problems so here is
something back.I managed to make a midi signal splitter,to be used
for triggering lots of midi stuff off,and it is very!easy to make.I
was wanting to send midi dater to a roland mt32(I have four!),from
midi sync software, but then change patches from another
machine, running an editor, plus lots of other strange configs. In short
all you need to do is conect the pins from a 5 pin din, solder on two
bits of wire from each single pin, then connect these to two seperate
5 pin dins at the other end of a sutable box.It been a mirror image
you have to swap over conections right side to the left. You need to
solder in 220homs resisters on the pins that carry a power signal so
that you dont overload the outs, especially if you turn it around and
have two signals going into one.I have made four units for my setup
and they work great.Note that these units are not midi merge
units. They can only carry one set of information at a time, which is
all I wanted then to do.I am not an electrician And you do this on
your own head, but it works for me,saved a fortune on midi box thingis.
If anyone want more details I could always do a diagram, mel
