Cant you use a midi sequencer that loads/saves midi files - load two 
in and save one out?

not sure what is meant by background and foreground - may be 
missunderstanding

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
