No, Notator Logic Atari isn´t Notator.
C-Lab /Emagic Notator up to SL 3.x is a pattern oriented midi sequencer and Emagic Notator Logic is a linear based one.
The Midi part in Notator Logic Atari 2.5 is the same you find in the later versions of Logic for the Mac and PC.
The Atari version just only lacks the audio engine.
Because Emagic Notator SL 3.x and Notator Logic 2.5 share the same dongle, it´s possible to run both programs on the same machine, having the different song formats on the same harddrive.
Therefore, it´s possible to import complete Notator SL songs, created in a pattern orientated way, directly into a linear based midi sequencer,- Notator Logic 2.5,- without transfering midi files, which doesn´t represent a complete Notator song at all, between 2 machines by using floppies.
Import a Notator SL song into Notator Logic and you have it in tape machine style in Notator Logic including all the midi-ports routing for Export/Log3, Unitor 2 and Atari itself as well as all the dedicated midichannels neccessary for the tracks playback correctly.
I fact, once Notator SL songs are imported into Notator Logic Atari, you´re able to import THIS song into Logic Mac/PC, or you have the choice to export Notator Logic Atari midi tracks and import ´em into any other linear based DAW in full length, not pattern based parts of tracks.
Result:
You don´t have to re-organize the tracks or parts ( pattern positions) according to the DAW sequencers timeline.
This is a big time-saver if you have a lot of old midi songs, patterns and sequences done w/ Notator SL in stock and want to remix or redo something.
With Notator Logic 2.0, the "midi-environment" feature was introduced, so the midi handling is different compared to the previous versions, but this "midi-environment" is/was used until Apple Logic 7.x in general and disappeared w/ Logic Studio 8 AFAIK.
So, Notator Logic 2.0-2.5 seems to be a pretty good midi engine, the most advanced one for Atari ST/STe/Falcon except Steinberg Cubase 3.1 Atari special edition which is a similar one.
Means,- a manual version 2.0 is needed,- maybe it was the last one and all the further improvements /add-ons are documented in the updates text "read me" files up to version 2.5 only.
