Re: [atari-midi-archives] Re: turbosynth

As Charles said,- Turbosynth and Digidesign Sounddesigner I / II as also the "universal",- don´t need dongles.

I own Sounddesigner Universal and Turbosynth as well as Cubase 3.1, but never used ´em on the same machine.
I doubt, multitasking is a good idea w/ Atari machines, it slows down the speed of the computer too much, the experience I had w/ C-Lab Notator and Bankmanagers/Editors running simultaneously and even there´s the max. of 4MB RAM available.

The Sounddesigner apps need the full 4 megs of RAM anyway, so the only chance would be a Falcon w/ much more than 4 megs of RAM.
On the other side, - not all the apps run well w/ all the available TOS versions,- I don´t see Sounddesigner Universal 1.5 running on any of my Ataris even the disks are readable and in good condition.
My oldes machine is a Mega ST4 w/ TOS 1.4 and it doesn´t run on this, - seems it needs TOS 1.2 ...
Well, Sounddesigner Universal is the only app I own w/ this behaviour.

I´m a modern DAW user also, but have 4 Ataris in my homestudio in addition, just because "old" hardware gear needs the old computers and apps.
Akai S-1000, S-1000PB and S-1100 here too.
But I use Steinberg Wavelab on PC as a sample editor these days and don´t think Steinberg Avalon is an app you´d need today.
