.son files - invented by the devil ?

.son files - invented by the devil ?

2004-03-25 by hammersteen

importing atari creator files into cakewalk on the pc is not very
difficult. i saved my patterns as standard midi files and that's
basically it.

however the problem is that i had complex arrangements on my atari.
there are patterns all over the place and it's a nightmare to
recreate them on the pc. but all this information is stored in
the .son files.

i believe from what i've read the only program capable of
reading .son files is emagic logic.

i don't own that software, can't find a demo etc. so that's not an
option. if i had a .son file format spec i could maybe work out
what's going on but i can't find one anywhere either.

i can't believe i'm the only one with this problem. but having looked
all over the internet i'm beginning to think i am.

well...I think the best thing to do is to make a project of it, and simply
run your Atari with Notator into a PC sequencer , lock up the MIDI clocks,
and simply play Notator into it.

thanks for the tip. i tried that when i first moved to harddisk
recording on the pc. the result wasn't very accurate, though.
especially with a lot of traffic coming through it wasn't good at all.

anyway, my ST1040 has been in a box for about five years now and i
don't wanna go through all the hassle of setting everything up just
to be disappointed when i've got all the .son and .mid files on a
disc.
