Re: New file uploaded to ATARI-MIDI-ARCHIVES

2017-03-29 by grgrprrr@...

Hello,

i have scanned my Tiger Cub v1 manual, it is saved in PDF format.
This is meant to be printed (A4 doublesided) and then stapled together like the original manual.
(or: if you read it on your computer the page numbers will jump)

This was Ok'ed by the author Emile Tobenfeld.

The freeware version of Tiger Cub (available for download on Tim Conrardy's site) is v2,
and has a text file describing the changes since v1:
new features in v2 not described in the v1 manual are:
SPP support (and midi clock, play, stop),
24 tracks support (instead of 12 previously),
sending sysex messages from within the seq - you just type in the "F0 to F7 stuff" and can also edit it later),
..

Tiger Cub is a somewhat underrated sequencer:
it is often described as a light version of KCS - which is true
- but then KCS is often described as being intimidating.

Tiger Cub is in fact a simpler version of Dr.T 's Tiger (graphical editing - piano roll program)
but with a tape recorder included.

You can run some dr.T's MPE (multi program environment) programs with Tiger Cub
(this is a form of multitasking),

for example run a Dr.T Caged Artist synth editor/librarian from within Tiger Cub
and switch from one to the other.
And they do interact too:
for example, you can hear your sequence (in Tiger CUB) from within the synth editor,
other Atari St sequencers don't necessarily do that ;)

There's also KCS Text MPE program which imports and exports ASCII text files in Tiger Cub.

and all these programs are freeware (thanks to Tim and other members from the Atari Midi group!)
and are available from Tim's site.

I'm very glad to be able to share this manual today :)
(those new fast scanning machines at the copy center made it possible)

Much thanks go out to Emile Tobenfeld for allowing this upload!
And none of this would be here without the efforts of Tim Conrardy and a lot of members from this list!

Some Tiger Cub reviews from way back:
but please note that this was the older version v1 being reviewed

Also:
Emile Tobenfeld still has
KCS 4.0 (shareware, registration gets you the manual (digital manual for v5), 30 dollars)
and KCS 5.03 (latest version with many extra features) available:
you can contact Emile at www.foryourhead.com

Hi Gregory -
Thank you for taking the time to scan and upload the manual. However, I cannot access it. When I try, I get this notice:
"Oops! You need to be a member to perform this action."
I'm pretty sure I'm a member. I get these emails.
Can you or anyone if the group help me, please.
ThanksDavid

Hmmm - it seems I am signed into the group with an old email address that I check infrequently. Not sure why notices from this group come to my new email address. Perhaps if I dig around I can change that.
Anyway, not to worry - I was able to get your manual, Gregory. It will be awkward to read on an ipad, as you noted. But better than not having it.
Thanks again.

David

Hi David,
Yes you are a member, I just checked.
Also, I checked the download & that works for me.
Presumably you couldn't get to the download page unless you have the
correct login/password so I'm not sure what is going on.

If you still can't get the file let me know & I'll sort something out.

Hi Simon -
Thank you for your response.
Did you see me as a member with this email address or another email address?
Again, it is not a problem now - but I am just curious how all this works.
Thanks againDavid
